From Proto-Albanian *tull-, from Proto-Indo-European *teu(H)-(lo-) (“swelling”), from the root *tewh₂- (“to swell”).
Cognate to:
- Ancient Greek τύλος (túlos, “torus, wale”),
- Latin tullius (“swell, flood, gush, jet”),
- Middle High German dolle, dulle (“foliage”),
- Swedish tull (“pine cone”).[1]
Ultimately a doublet of tytë and tëtanë (possibly).
