From Proto-Finnic *tukto, from Proto-Uralic *tuktɜ (“cross-beam”). Cognate with Hungarian tat (“stern (of a ship)”), Komi-Zyrian тік (tïk, “cross wood, cross bar”) and Selkup тати (“thwart (of a ship”).[1]
