Etymology
First attested as Augusta Pder in 1838-1857. Compound of Augusta (“a personal name”) and polder (“polder”). Named after Elisabeth Maria Aloysa Augusta of the Pfalz (1721-1794), the wife of then-Marquis of Bergen op Zoom, Charles Theodore of Sulzbach (1729-1795).
