From Latin trapezium, from Ancient Greek τραπέζιον (trapézion, “irregular quadrilateral”, literally “a little table”), diminutive of τράπεζα (trápeza, “table”), itself from τρά- (trá-, “four”) + πέζα (péza, “foot, edge”).
