哄 [hǒng] 动

1. ■ （用假话手段骗人） fool; kid; humbug:

不要哄我。 Don't fool me.

你这是哄我，我不信。 You're kidding me, I don't believe it.

2. ■ （用言语或行动引人高兴，特指看或带小孩儿） coax; humour:

哄孩子吃药 coax a child to take medicine;

她很会哄孩子。 She knows how to handle children.; She has a way with children.

我用好话哄姐姐带我去看戏。 I coaxed my sister into taking me to the theatre.
