tip (“piece; tip”) + -yn (diminutive suffix), perhaps borrowed from English tip.[1]

- a bit, a small amount
- Mae tipyn bach ar ôl.

- a bit better
- Mae Ianto ni yn dipyn o aderyn.[2]
- Our Ianto is a bit of a lad.
