Ancient Greek θίνα (thína, “dune, shore”) + -lite.

thinolite (usually uncountable, plural thinolites)
- (mineralogy) A calcareous tufa, partly crystalline, occurring on a large scale as a shore deposit about the Quaternary lake basins of Nevada.
