Terwispel
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as wispolia in 1315. Borrowed from West Frisian Terwispel, derived in turn from an inflected form of te (“at”) and the hydronym Wispel, potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian wisch (“wet pasture”) and pôl (“pool”) or from a verb cognate to Dutch kwispelen (“wave, meander”).
