taraġ
Maltese
Etymology
From Arabic دَرَج (daraj), plural of دَرَجة (daraja), whence the Maltese singulative. The t- probably by dissimilation against the -ġ- (as in tiġieġ), perhaps also through influence of unrelated Sicilian tirrazza, Italian terrazza (“terrace”), with which it was associated.
