From Malay tanggah, from Persian تنگه (tenge, “tenge, a piece of gold or silver”), from Old Turkic teg (teg, “as, as much as, equal”), teŋ (teŋ, “equivalent, balanced”), teŋe- (teŋe-, “compare, measure”).[1] Doublet of tenge.
