From Ancient Greek ταχύς (takhús, “quick”) + ὕδωρ (húdōr, “water”).[1]

1. (mineralogy) An evaporite, consisting of a mixed calcium and magnesium chloride, with the chemical formula CaMg₂Cl₆·12H₂O.
