Etymology
First attested as arlo in 820. Compound of Old Dutch *are (“maple”) and lo (“light forest”). The initial T- derives from a contraction of the preposition te (“at”) into the word. Compare Aarle, Aarle-Rixtel, Ten Arlo and Tynaarlo.
