From a Turkic language,[1][2] ultimately from Proto-Turkic *siarïg (“yellow, white”), via an intermediate form *siarg-a (note *-ï- elided). Compare Turkish sarı, Khakas сарығ (sarığ) and Chuvash шурӑ (šură).
