From Proto-Finnic *sukka, borrowed from Proto-Norse [Term?], from Proto-Germanic *sukkaz (sock) (compare English sock, Swedish socka), from Latin soccus.[1] Finnic cognates include Ingrian sukka, Karelian sukka, Karelian šukka, Livvi sukku, Ludian suk, Estonian sukk, Livonian sukā and Votic sukkõ.
