1. ■ （使出） put forth (strength); exert (effort):

努劲儿 put forth all one's strength;

大家再努一把劲。 Let's make still greater efforts.

2. ■ （凸出） protrude; bulge:

努着眼睛 with bulging eyes;

我向他努了努嘴， 让他先说。 I pouted my lips at him, hinting that he should speak first.

3. ■ （用力太过， 身体内部受伤） injure oneself through overexertion:

箱子太沉， 你别扛， 看努着。 Don't carry that heavy trunk, or you'll strain yourself.
