source text (plural source texts)

(translation studies) The original text from which a translation is done into another language, often abbreviated as ST.

  [S]tudents in their first year believe that source text and target text should be identical in content, that the TT should be a reproduction of the ST in another language, and that the TT should read well and be understandable.
