Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *strṇg- 'to squeeze'. Compare Latin stringō (“press, squeeze”). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *sterunkā, from *sterja (modern shtie). Compare also Romanian strungă. More at shtie.
