Etymology
From Arabic شِيعَة (šīʿa, “sect, faction, party; [collectively] followers, partisans”), as the word has been used in شِيعَة عَلِيّ (šīʿat ʿalī, “the faction of Ali; [collectively] the followers of Ali”) or الشِّيعَة (aš-šīʿa, “the Faction; the Followers”).
