shearling (plural shearlings)

  1. A sheep that has been shorn for the first time
    • 1853, David Low, On the Domesticated Animals of the British Isles, page 97:
      They are rarely fattened when shearlings, the usual period being after they have lost their second fleece, and are wethers.
  2. (chiefly US) A sheepskin or lambskin that has gone through a limited shearing process so that the fibers are of uniform depth
    Her coat was lined with shearling.
