From Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (sevdi) (compare Turkish sevdi), third-person singular past definite indicative of [script needed] (sevmek) (Turkish sevmek (“to love”)), used as a participle in Serbo-Croatian. Akin to sevdàlīnka, sevdàlija, sevdàluk, sèvdāh, sèvdisati.
