单词 Schöps
释义

Schöps

German

Etymology

From Middle High German schopz, schöpz (castrated male sheep), from a West Slavic language, from Proto-Slavic *skopьсь (eunuch, someone castrated). The restriction to sheep may be due to the phonetic similarity to Middle High German schāf (sheep), but compare Czech skopec (castrated ram). Compare Yiddish שעפּס (sheps, sheep), Russian скопе́ц (skopéc, eunuch).
