Etymology
From sampúwo (attested as sampouo, from sam- + púwo), from older sampúlo, from sam- + púlo, ultimately from Proto-Austronesian *sa-ŋa-puluq (“ten”). Compare Indonesian sepuluh,Ilocano sangapulo, Bikol Central sampulo, Bima sampuru, and Hawaiian anahulu (“period of ten days”).
