From Sanskrit साधु (sādhú, “good; good man, holy man”).

sadhu (plural sadhus)

(Hinduism) An ascetic or practitioner of yoga (yogi) who has given up pursuit of the first three Hindu goals of life: kama (enjoyment), artha (practical objectives) and even dharma (duty).
