两败俱伤

两败俱伤 [liǎng bài jù shāng]

1. ■ cause destruction to both sides; both being defeated and wounded; Both sides suffer [lose].; Both sides suffered [sustained] great losses (in the fierce battles).; Both sides would be losers in the fight.; both weakened by ....; For either side, the war does not pay.; have worn each other out; There is no victor in the strife, for eventually both sides would be ruined.; The two contending parties would be defeated in the sense that both would be injured in the fight.:
