Borrowed from Old Chinese 龍 (OC *b·roŋ, *mroːŋ, “dragon”) like many other languages of Southeast Asia. Compare also Khmer រោង (roong, “(year of the) dragon”) and its equivalent in Thai มะโรง (má-roong).
