Proto-Vietic
Etymology
Schuessler (2007) compares this to Proto-Monic *gooʔ (“to get, to possess”), Old Chinese 侯 (OC *[ɡ]ˤ(r)o, “to be, to have (Shijing)”), Jingpho gu (“to have”), while Diffloth (1992) proposed Vietic and Aslian forms such as Jehai weʔ, Semnam wɔːʔ (for correspondence between Vietic *k vs. zero-initial in other Austroasiatic languages, see củi, cứt, cảy). Neither is particularly likely.
