Etymology
Denominal verb from *ščupъ (“dipstick”) + *-ati, with further origin unceratin. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *skewp-, akin to Sanskrit छुपति (chupati, “to touch”), and furhter related to *ščipati (“to pinch”), from a p-extension of *skey- (“to cut”)[1].
