Etymology
From earlier *skubti < Proto-Balto-Slavic *skaub⁽ˀ⁾téi, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewbʰ-. Related to Lithuanian skùbti (“to hurry”) (n-infix present), Latvian skubinât (“to urge, to push”). Further akin to Proto-Germanic *skeubaną (“to shove”), Persian آشفتن (âšoftan, “to agitate”), Sanskrit क्षुभ्यति (kṣubhyati, “to shake”).
