Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *mélˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *melh₂- (“to grind”). Cognates include Lithuanian málti, German mahlen, Latin molō, Ancient Greek μύλη (múlē), Sanskrit मृणाति (mṛṇā́ti) and Hittite [script needed] (malla-i).
