Resultant noun from Proto-Slavic *loskati (“to slap, to bash”), either of expressive origin related to Etymology 2 or possibly from *logъ + *-skъ (as per Горох.ua). Compare Bulgarian разло́г (razlóg, “hollow”), Russian лог (log, “ravine”), ложби́на (ložbína, “depression”).
