From Proto-Balto-Slavic *dabras, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₂ebʰ-ro-s, from *dʰh₂ebʰ- (“to fashion, fit”). Morphologically formed as *dòbъ + *-rъ.
Cognate with Latin faber, Proto-Germanic *dapraz.
