Etymology
From *áspa (whence Ossetian ӕфсӕ (æfsæ)), from Proto-Iranian *Hácwah + possibly *rū́xs ~ *rukɨ́ (“light”) (whence Ossetian рухс (ruxs)), from Proto-Iranian *ráwxš ~ *rukás (whence Persian رخش (roxš)).[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek Λεύκιππος (Leúkippos, literally “white horse”).
