Proto-Nakh

*cic Caucasian wildcat

Etymology

Unknown. Compare with Proto-Kartvelian *cic(o)- (species of cat) and Proto-Northwest Caucasian *ćːǝdzá (weasel; marten; beaver).[1] The etymology of the Bats wordform is incomprehensible. The wordform can be inherited from this Proto-Nakh form, or it can be borrowed from Georgian ციცა (cica, cat) later. If we assume that this wordform is compatible with Chechen цӏецайоккхург (cʼecajoqqurg, weasel) and Ingush цицхолг (cicxolg, rat), then the wordform *cic has undergone assimilation from *c̣ic.
