From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáwxšati, from Proto-Indo-European *déwk-s-eti, from *dewk- (“to pull, draw”) + *-seti (primary verb suffix). Meaning influenced by Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáwgdʰi (“to milk”).
