Etymology

Possibly from *su-h₁ésh₂-ōr, reflexive pronoun of *swé (“self”) +‎ *h₁ésh₂r̥ (“blood”), so literally “woman of one's own kin group” in an exogamous society. Another alternative combines *swé (“self”) +‎ *-sōr (feminine-noun-forming suffix).
