Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/tūdrą
Proto-Germanic
Etymology
Uncertain. Possibly from Pre-Germanic *duh₂tróm or *duh₂dʰrom, an instrumental formation from Proto-Indo-European *dewh₂-, whence also *tawjaną (“to make, complete”). The original meaning was probably "that which is ready (for use)" or "that which is made, produced".
