Proto-Celtic
Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₂weg- (“to increase, grow out”), comparable to Proto-Germanic *wahsijaną. However, it could instead be from *weǵ- (“strong, lively, awakened”), though the semantic development would be unclear.
