Presumably borrowed from either Old Median *spantah or Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬆𐬧𐬙𐬀‎ (spəṇta)[1], both from Proto-Iranian *cwantás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwantás, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwen-tó-s, from *ḱwen- (“holy, sacred”) +‎ *-tós.
