Etymology

Borrowed from Iranian; compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwʾstn'), 𐫟𐫇𐫀𐫘𐫤𐫗‎ (xwʾstn /xwāstan/) (whence Persian ‎ (xwâstan)), Parthian 𐫇𐫟𐫀𐫍𐫏𐫅‎ (wxʾhyd /xwāhed/, “to wish, desire, seek”). The same word is found in the wholly-borrowed terms դատախազ (dataxaz) and մատակախազ (matakaxaz).
