Etymology
Modification of -orama, influenced by diorama and panorama, and thus derived from Ancient Greek ὅρᾱμᾰ (hórāma, “sight, spectacle”), which in turn evolved from the Proto-Indo-European *wer- (“to perceive, look out for”).
Suffix
-rama
- Alteration of -orama, used in suffixing a word ending with an r or vowel sound.
- camera → camerarama or
- future → futurama (formed by eliding the e and merging the two rs into one)
Usage notes
- The suffix is usually appended without hyphenation, or occasionally with hyphen intended to catch the eye.
