Possibly related to *rēpō, from *h₁reh₁p- (compare Latvian Latvian rãpât, Latvian râpt, Middle High German reben (“to move, stir, blend”), Middle High German rebe (“offshoot, bud”)). Confer with Latin Latin serpō.
