From Proto-Finnic *potka. Cognate to Finnish potka, Veps potk, and Northern Sami boaski. Possibly a cognate to Erzya пукшо (pukšo, “thigh”) and Selkup [script needed] (pak͔tor, “calf (part of the leg)”).
