Cognates include Estonian pähkel, Finnish pähkinä, Votic pähtšenä, pähtšänä, pähtšinä, Livonian pē’gõz, Veps pähkim, Ingrian päähkänä, Erzya пеште (pešte), Moksha пяште (pjašte), Eastern Mari пӱкш (pükš), Udmurt пашпу (pašpu, “hazelnut bush”) and possibly also Komi-Zyrian пашкан (paškan, “rosehip”).
