Etymology

Back-formation from pseudonymous, from French pseudonyme (pseudonymous, adjective), from Ancient Greek ψευδώνυμος (pseudṓnumos), from ψευδής (pseudḗs, false) and ὄνυμα (ónuma), from ὄνομα (ónoma, name). Alternatively, analyzable as pseudo- + -onym.
