From earlier pāschen, originally a plural form, from Latin pascha, from Ancient Greek πάσχα (páskha, “Passover”), from Aramaic פַּסְחָא (pasḥā), from Hebrew פֶּסַח (pesaḥ). This word spread in the earlier Middle Ages from the diocese of Cologne.
