Etymology

Coined by Jean-François Ménard in Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers (1998), his translation of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997). From pou (“louse”) +‎ lard (“bacon”), based on Hogwarts (hog +‎ wart).
