postal code (plural postal codes)

  1. A sequence of letters and/or numbers added to a postal address to aid the sorting and delivery of post/mail.
    Don't forget to add the postal code to the envelope, or it won't be delivered on time.

  • This seems to be used as a generic term to include any of the official codes established by postal services intended to facilitate mail delivery.
  • Within a country many speakers may use the name of the national postal code (such as "zip code") to refer to any such code, even if it is the postal code of a foreign postal service.
