From a 1990 article by Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, "A Bouquet of Lovers", from poly- (from Ancient Greek πολύς (polús, “many”)) + Latin amor (“love”) + -ous.

- Having relationships with multiple partners, with the knowledge and consent of all involved; engaging in polyamory.
- Open to having such relationships, regardless of one's experience or current practices.
