Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish بشمك (bişmek), پیشمك (pişmek, to be cooked), from Proto-Turkic *biĺč- (to become boiled, ripe).[1]

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (bış-, to ripen, be cooked), Azerbaijani bişmək (to bake, boil), Bashkir бешеү (beşew, to boil, cook), Chuvash пиҫ (piś, to boil, stew, cook, ripen), Kazakh пісу (pısu, to mature), Khakas пызарға (pızarğa, to ripen, stew, cook, sweat), Kyrgyz бышуу (bışuu, to mature, ripen), Turkmen bişmek (to be cooked), Yakut бус (bus, to cook, boil, be ready to eat, ripen).
