  Phytogenics, or plant-derived compounds, have been incorporated in livestock and poultry feed to improve productivity. Phytogenics include a broad range of plant materials, most of which have a long history in human nutrition, where they have been used as flavors, food preservatives, and medicines, in solid, dried, and ground forms or as extracts or essential oils.
